Washington DC - Day 3 (Arlington)

Today is another one from Daryl's bucket list ticked off - Arlington Cemetery & The JFK Kennedy Memorial  - the Eternal Flame.

We decide to make it on our own rather than pay for a tour and this turned out to be pretty easy by taking the subway with one transfer - no worries.

We watched the Changing of the Guards (twice) at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier which happens every half an hour, 24 hours a day and has not stopped since the National Guard took over, even during 9/11 or Hurricane Sandy.

On duty through rain, snow, hail.............

Memorials to the space shuttle Columbia & Challenger

Below, the memorial to Pam American Flight 103 over Lockerbie.

Overlooking the Capitol Hill..................

The JFK graves and the Eternal Flame.
Overlooking the Pentagon.....................

We walk back to Iwo Jima WWII Memorial to view this in day light as well.

Then catch the train back into the city and head back to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum which we did not finished before closing yesterday and continue our tour.  So much to see.

These are amazing Museums and they are free - well worth going to.  Washington DC is so full of these types of facilities and most are free of charge  - you could spend a week here and not see them all.

Some neat examples on display.......

Next stop..................Smithsonian American Natural History Museum, which also had some amazing exhibits on all different types of animals - again free.

Back to camp as we are now stuffed and our feet are making it known!
