Washington DC - Day 2

Another big day!

We catch the subway into the city - (we are about 18 miles north), and we make it to town okay.   Today we will visit some of the sights we saw last night, starting with the Washington Monument..............

So high and unfortunately the elevators are broken so we wont be going up!

There are so many tourists in this city - must be the number one income along with politics.

The State Capitol is also under re-construction.

Looking down the water way to the Lincoln Memorial in the distance.

The scene from Forest Gump..... didn't find Jenny.

Another war memorial in between as we walk down towards the Lincoln Memorial.

This the memorial for the Korean War - the forgotten war and is very well done.

The faces of the men etched into the marble walls.

Daryl on the steps with the tonnes of other tourists....

Martin Luther King's spot at Lincoln's Memorial for his "I have a Dream" speech.

The Vietnam Memorial is also here with the thousands of names of lost soldiers inscribed along a wall that is way too long and way to full.  Very sombre.

We decide to catch the local hop on hop off bus and make our way to the Smithsonian Museum of Air & History next.

We finally find the original Wright Brothers plane!

Some more pics of the displays.............

Next we head for the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, where we come up the escalator and run to Scott Wilkin.

Nice catch up with the Kiwi team!

Next we head back too The White House to see if we can get any closer - slightly but not much....

The snipers are still in place on the roof.

Another great day - there is so much to do here and a lot of it free but you need to be fairly fit to keep up!  We pick up tea in town before heading back to camp as it is late again........
