Fairbanks to Denali

It's an early start....ugh - bags out by 6.30 am.

First day of our tour and we take boat trip down the river, starting with a float plane display.

There were over 400 people on the boat..... so many buses fill of people - we are not used to travelling in this style.

Some very pretty scenery ass we float down the river.

Some of the houses in Fairbanks along the river - log houses were prevalent but many other types also.  Some pretty cool houses here.

Lots have antlers piled high such as these on the shed roof below.

An old pump house, originally used to pump water for gold mining is now a popular restaurant / pub.

A little further up river, we are given a dog sled display with the dogs demonstrating their summer training pulling a quad with no motor and extra brakes.

And so cute, the little sled dogs.......

And then reindeer............

Next we stop at an Inuit Indian village for demonstrations on how they lived - here our guide (Cindy) models the Inuit clothing used to survive the harsh winters in Alaska.

Below, a display of furs and what they used them for.

Me trying out the sled and Daryl posing with another Moose...

Our boat - all aboard for the trip back up river, where we have lunch at the restaurant/shops that all run with the same outfit (of course) before hoping on a coach to head for Denali.

Daryl takes a pic of familiar sights around here - stuff just sticks around...

We pass the train going through to Fairbanks - we will be on this travelling down to Anchorage in a few days to catch our cruise ship.

We arrive in Denali and find our room.  The view is over another river looking to the mountains - beautiful as usual.

We look around and then head over to the Salmon Bake across the road for dinner (as recommended by Debbie & Bill last night) and enjoy some fresh local Alaskan Salmon.
The building was damaged in the earthquake and has been left as is, odd angles included - the floor slopes down as does the roof...wonky walls etc.

The view from our room and our lodge - there are about 5 massive lodges here in Denali for different companies - we are with Princess, and stay here two nights.
