Denali Wilderness Tour

Today we have our first tour and have upgraded in the hope of seeing lots of wildlife only we have a two hour delay to the start due to an accident in the park and don't get underway until 11.50 am.

Finally we are on our way and enter the Denali National Park.  The trees are stunted here due to the cold winters.

Lots of beautiful scenery but no wildlife - so far we have seen a duck!!!!!  Quack quack.

Then, a Bald Eagle...

And some bears..........

All at a great distance

Finally a little closer but Sheep - are you kidding me!!!!

Dall Sheep......

Road was narrow and fell away steeply in places.

These were very heavy - feel sorry for the Moose carrying all that weight around.

A Ground Squirrel......getting desperate now.....

Finally just as we leave the park, a female Moose walks out with her calf!   Yeh!!!!

This is more like it!!

At least we saw something and finally a decent Moose sighting but not a Bull.  We console ourselves with dinner - very nice.

After dinner around 10 pm we go for a walk - you can see it is still very light.

The fauna is very like New Zealand - same ferns  and flowers here.

Over looking the lodge and through to Mount McKinley - the highest mountain in USA at 20,320 feet high.  We have been waiting for the weather to clear to actually see this mountain - fingers crossed tomorrow may be better.
