Seneca Falls, Ithaca & Corning Day Trip

We decide to go for a tiki tour around the Finger Lakes area and head north from Watkins Glen with no plan but to see what we find.

First stop was Lodi - the lake looks a little rough today and there is a strong wind blowing.

Marina on the other side a little smoother.

As we drive out, we take the road along the shore passing the houses with their boat docks on the lake.  Some houses are across the road, others on the water side but the docks add atmosphere to the area.

Some have decks with tables and chairs, BBQ's etc.

This is vineyard territory - very much like Marlborough, with paddocks of grapes rolling down to the lakes and tasting rooms everywhere you look.

Next stop - Seneca Falls where there are no falls!  However, they have the canals set up in town where you can hitch your boat, or rent one, and plug into power free.  Showers etc. are available also.  The canals apparently go all the way to the sea.  Sounds like a fun way to travel.

Touted as the most photographed church in the state - there are a lot of churches here.

The church even has it's own pergola.

Chatting to a couple down the street, they tell us to go south down the 89 to the Falls - we were going south anyway so take the 89 along Cayuga Lake.

We meander through the many wineries and lake houses making our way to Taughannock Falls.

This is the highest single-cascade falls east of the Rocky Mountains but at this time of year it is virtually dry.

There are a number of eagles flying over the falls and we watch them gracefully floating on the wind currents for a while.

From here we travel down to Ithaca and grab some lunch at the local bagel shop.  Nice.

Ithaca appears to be a University town.
After our late lunch, nearly 3pm now, we head for Corning as we have seen this listed as a place not to miss.  We have heard about the Corning Glass Museum but by the time we get there and find it, it was closing as after 5pm on Sunday.

Nice town and I did pick up a glass pumpkin as it is Halloween at the end of October and they are setting up everywhere for this over here.
