This morning we drove into Erie to see what we could find............ we eventually ended up down at the wharf and went up the "Tower"......
Basically this is an elevator which takes you up 3 floors to a platform for $4 each.
View from the top of the Tower, looking back into Erie and across the convention centre, shaped like a boat.
We stopped at the cafe for some clam chowder which turned out to be thick white sauce with chewy bits! Not as good as Cooney Island!
Wandered around the area for a while and then headed back into town passing this old Warner Theatre to see what else we could find.
There is a State Park on a peninsula out from Erie and so we went for a drive through this area which is the local beach. It is obviously packed out in summer but as we have past Labour Day, it was fairly quiet as everything has closed down now.
We came across the lighthouse and went for a stroll down the beach - very nice.
Spotted what looks to Mennonite's or possibly Amish having a day at the beach also....
We did smile that the men still had to look at the girl in the bikini that walked past!
An easy day in a relaxing area. We checked out the Quaker Steak & Lube to see if there was a car show tonight but they have also finished for the season.......
After talking to a fellow camper we decide to head to Gettysburg after all, which will be our last stop in the East before heading home back to California.
