Setting off again we make our way back to the toll road to travel east to Gettysburg.
More tunnels - these seem to be par for the course and shows how far behind we are in NZ.
The familiar sight of Pennsylvania...... barns, silos and yellowing fields.
Again our darling GPS has taken what seems like a back route, not the one we thought we would be taking.
We end up on narrow back roads in Amish country.......narrow one lane bridges and twisty corners.....so much fun in an RV!
Time for a new GPS!
Saw some interesting old houses and buildings thou as she dropped us over a steep mountainside to go down to Gettysburg.
We arrive at camp, which is a horse camp! This will be different, especially as we are in the overflow area right beside the horses!
Very rustic but kinda nice except the flies are annoying!
The weather fall cast is for rain and thunderstorms but it has not yet materialised - just overcast and threatening. Mid afternoon we head out to see what it is all about and find the Pennsylvania monument just up the road, They have had a re-enactment weekend going on and we catch the last of this in action.
Deciding that we need some info we head for the National Parks Centre as this is a national Military Park. We buy the CD for the auto tour and set off about 3pm to take this in case it rains tomorrow.
Daryl with Abe.
The auto tour takes in 16 points around Gettysburg and takes around 3 hours. There are monuments and memorials everywhere, as well as canyons.
Some pics of the sights.............
Every infantry has a memorial and there were hundreds of them.
Approximately $50,000 men became casualties over three days in a civil war.
By the end of tour it is a bit much and Gettysburg is not what either of us imagined it would be - not sure what I imagined.....
