Newberry - Sault Ste. Marie via Tahquamenon Falls

Leaving Marquette area we head along the coast towards Newberry.  Where the road left the lake, there was a inviting looking RV park right on the lake and just before Munising township which also looked cute and we were tempted to stop there having not booked any accommodation for tonight.

Daryl decided to continue on to Newberry which is supposed to be the Moose capital of Michigan - we are still looking for Moose - think they have just made it up to attract the tourists to the area.

Newberry turned out to be not much and we stayed in the local KOA - they stick the one nighter's down the bottom where all the water runs and of course it rained all night!  Not much sleep as kept thinking we were going to be bogged in down there....

It wasn't quite that bad when we got up and we made it out okay.  We decided to take the scenic route up past the Tahquamenon Falls (Upper & Lower) and then go out to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.

Tahquamenon Upper Falls - 50 ft drop

& then Tahquamenon Lower Falls 4 miles down the road....

Right Falls

Here's the full shot with the island in between -you can row over to the island to get a closer look if your feeling energetic, which we weren't.

Then up to Whitefish Point and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.

The trees are just beginning to change colour but in 3 weeks this will be stunning autumn colours.
We arrive in Sault Ste. Marie - the campground has been swapped with rain and is very exposed on the river between Canada and USA...... tomorrow it is supposed to fine up - fingers crossed.
