Tupelo, Mississippi

The next morning we head out to Florence where Daryl checks out the car which takes an hour or so and then we find the Natchez Trace Parkway to follow down to Tupelo, Mississippi, where Elvis was born. We have driven across the width of sweet home Alabama.

The Natchez Trace is a 444 mile national scenic byway that runs from Nashville, Tennessee to Natchez, Mississippi and began as a footpath for native Americans 8000 years ago. The road was quiet and very pretty like driving down a country lane - we were told we would see wild turkey and boars, lots of wildlife but nothing was out and about in the heat at that time of day and I don't blame them.

Daryl playing peek a boo......

Our camp is at Barns Crossing just off the Natchez Trace and we arrive around 2.30pm, so have time to check out the birthplace of Elvis.

We visit the museum and the house where he was born.  Watch a film on the early years of Elvis up until he moves to Memphis and then head downtown to the Hardware shop where his mother brought him his first guitar at 7 years old.  Elvis wanted a gun but Mum decided a guitar would be better......

The coupe attracts attention everywhere and when the guys in the hardware shop saw it parked out front, they all had to come out and have a look.... like bees to the honey pot.
