Later we cruised the opposite scenic byway 128 along the upper Colorado river out to the Red Rock Lodge & Castle Valley Winery where we did some tasting. The lodge is upmarket and sits right on the river with a restaurant overlooking the river bend & cabins along the river edge - very nice. We visited the Moab Museum of Film & Western Heritage - lots of memorabilia from films gone by such as Thelma & Louise.

Moab 23/05/13
Another cruisy day around Moab area - we headed out down scenic byway 279 to Potash along the lower Colorado river and took in some of the ancient Indian writing on the rocks. Also a popular place to do abseiling.

We went downtown only to find another hot rod behind us, so we pulled over to chat and he took us round to meet a friend who might have a part we were wanting. Turned out the friend knew two people Daryl knows......small world!

Above is Dave who we met downtown with his 1946 Mercury Woody and the yellow 1937 hotrod belongs to Rod, the friend who turned out to be a harley riding, hot rodding Chaplin........nice guy.

Moab
Today we had a rest day and Daryl slept in until 10am!..... After a leisurely start, some household chores (all the exciting stuff) while Daryl played around on the coupe, we went down town and checked out a place called Milts, a old fashioned burger bar we had been told about. It started in 1954 and 6 months after the guys opened the town moved the main street a couple of blocks over. Despite that, the place has continued and is still running today. Daryl tried a malt shake - very rich flavours.
The camp is full of big boys toys and of every description.....
And the pond has a few residence of its own, fish and these little guys.

Dead Horse Point & Canyonlands - Moab
Another day of sightseeing (hiking) as we head out to Dead Horse Point State Park & Canyonlands National Park, getting home around 6.30pm again. The scenery is amazing and there are no words to describe it all. Canyonlands is described as "The Island in the Sky' as it has views that can be over 161km's in any given direction, panoramic views.
And then on to Canyonlands............
Sunset over the camp and time to say goodnight......
Anyway here are today's pics.... Dead Horse Point

Arches National Park - Moab, Utah
We settled in and set up camp last night so this morning we cruised down town to re-stock the cupboards as they were looking a bit bare. Town is quaint and we call this place the Queenstown of Utah - an adventure playground.
After lunch we head out the Arches National Park, only about 5 miles from town..... so here are today's pics.

A bit more hiking today......although we did not go the 8km walk up to the Delicate Arch but even the upper view point was nearly a km uphill. You can see heaps of people who did make the 8km walk standing underneath in the photo! Good on them. They say to allow 3 hours but even then it took us 4 hours and we missed the last hike of about 3 miles also.... I think we may be arched out for now.
