DeForest - Fond du Lac

Can't help but think of dipping food in hot chocolate or cheese when I see the name of this place...

Anyway we decide it is time to move again although we were very comfortable in DeForest and the camp owner were great.  Fond Du Lac is just over an hours drive north east from here and we are at another KOA as they have wifi and full hook ups - it seems to be harder and harder to find a campground with all facilities.  Most of these places shut down for winter and only run for 6-7 months of the year.

A look around down and climbed the lighthouse for a view of the area.  There are some lovely big old houses around here.

 

We found these two parked at the ice cream place near our RV park, aptly named

Oshkosh Day Trip

This morning was wet and thundery......we turned over and went back to sleep!

 

About 9.30am we woke again and the weather had fined up, so we got up and by the time we had done some stuff around the RV, it was after lunch....

 

We headed up to Oshkosh to the EAA, The Spirit of Aviation Museum, about half an hour further west around Lake Winnebago.

 

The Museum was very well set out and then we went over to the Pioneer

 I had a chance to go for a joy ride in a 1929 Bi-Plane....for a small fee $75, but worth it, the pilot Doug, like to show the the plane was capable of once in the air, doing figure 8s, stalls, nose dives & turning sharp on turns, yes lots of fun, we had head phones so he was explaining each move.

 

We had to check the pilot was having a good day before Daryl went up as they make you sign out of any liability.....  Doug reckoned he was having a pretty good day.....

After the museum we drove into Oshkosh to have a look around and try to find the lake... which proved not to be easy as no road drove around it as you would expect, just dead ends out to it....

 

So we stopped for some frozen custard, which we had seen around but not tried yet.  If you didn't know any better you would think this was ice cream.

 

 

 

DeForest-Milwaukee-DeForest

Day 4....... We are off to Milwaukee having found there is a dire shortage of campgrounds there, we will do a day trip for now.

We call into a place called Lake Mills, a typical small town and go looking for the lakes but didn't really find them - think we missed the turn off... so we are soon on our way again.

Daryl wants to do the Harley Davidson Museum and that is where we are heading.  It's $18.00 each and they have some neat stuff in there, well worth it.

Did a little shopping and then we head down to Milwaukee Lake to see what it's like and end up at the Marina, Yacht Club.

We saw there is a concert on further around the lake and go for a walk - for miles and miles literally.  Worked off that lunch anyway.   Huge lake area just like the sea with lots of family events going on everywhere. 












When we finally get round to where the "Summerfest" is, we find out it is $17 each entry which we didn't have on us - my purse is miles back in the car!  Oh well the thought was there - back we plod to the car and go to get an ice cream only this has now closed....

 

We go for a drive around the lake edge for a bit and then head back out towards DeForest, stopping for petrol and the long awaited ice cream.  Then on our way again but we decide to stop at a Walmart on the way which turned out to be a GPS nightmare as obviously the roads had changed.....  ended up in Watertown..... quite a bit off track. 

Watched sun go down in a fiery ball again and got home as it got dark.  Time for a bourbon.

Day 3 is a maintenance and rest day, so we finally fix the bathroom (yippee I can see again), the tire we punctured on the trailer going thru the toll booths......and all those odd jobs. We decide to stay another day and Jeff the owner tells us Milwaukee is only an hour and a quarter away.

 

 

We also stopped at the Ehlenbach's Cheese Chalet which is by our camp and bought some Jalapeno Havarti & Buttermilk Blue cheese. There were so many flavours to choose from Chicken soup cheese, Maple cheese, Ginger & Apricot - never seen so many flavours and types.

 

Oh, then we did the American thing and went for a hay ride...........
